Luke 24 does not allow the resurrection to remain a report the disciples can file away at safe distance. It presses recognition, interpretation, and witness together until the risen Christ becomes the key to the whole story. In Luke 24:5-7, even the empty tomb must be interpreted: why seek the living among the dead? Then on the road to Emmaus, the chapter becomes painfully searching. In Luke 24:25-27, Jesus exposes hearts that are slow to believe all that the prophets have spoken. Sorrow near the truth is still not the same as sight. By Luke 24:30-32, their hearts burn as the Scriptures open and the bread is broken. Finally, in Luke 24:44-49, the disciples are shown that repentance, forgiveness, and witness to the nations all arise from the Christ who has fulfilled the Law, the Prophets, and the Psalms. Luke 24 matters because it asks whether you want resurrection as amazement alone, or whether you are ready for the risen Christ to re-teach you the Bible and send you out as his witness.

তারা তাঁকে বললেন, নাসরতীয় যীশুর বিষয়ে ঘটনা, যিনি ঈশ্বরের ও সব লোকের সামনে ও কাজে ও কথায় মহান ভাববাদী ছিলেন; 20 আর কীভাবে প্রধান যাজকেরা ও আমাদের শাসকেরা প্রাণদণ্ডের জন্য দোষী করে তাকে সমর্পণ করলেন, ও ক্রুশে দিলেন। 21 কিন্তু আমরা আশা করছিলাম যে, তিনি সেই ব্যক্তি, যিনি ইস্রায়েলকে মুক্ত করবেন। আর এসব ছাড়া আজ তিনদিন হচ্ছে, এসব ঘটেছে। 22 আবার আমাদের কয়েক জন স্ত্রীলোক আমাদের অবাক করলেন; তারা ভোরে তাঁর কবরের কাছে গিয়েছিলেন, 23 আর তাঁর মৃতদেহ দেখতে না পেয়ে এসে বললেন, স্বর্গ দূতদের ও দেখা পেয়েছি এবং তাঁরা বলেন, তিনি জীবিত আছেন। 24 আর আমাদের সঙ্গীদের যারা কবরের কাছে গিয়েছিল, তারাও সেই স্ত্রীলোকেরা যেমন বলেছিলেন, তেমনি দেখতে পেয়েছিলেন, কিন্তু তাঁকে দেখতে পাননি। 25 তখন তিনি তাদের বললেন, হে অবুঝরা এবং ধীর হৃদয়ের লোকেরা, ভাববাদীরা যে সব কথা বলেছেন, সেই সবে বিশ্বাস করতে পার না 26 খ্রীষ্টের কি প্রয়োজন ছিল না যে, এই সব দুঃখভোগ করেন ও নিজের মহিমায় প্রবেশ করেন? 27 পরে তিনি মোশি থেকে ও সমস্ত ভাববাদী থেকে শুরু করে সব শাস্ত্রে তাঁর নিজের বিষয়ে যে সব কথা আছে, তা তাদের বুঝিয়ে দিলেন। 28 পরে তারা যেখানে যাচ্ছিলেন, সেখানে সেই গ্রামের কাছে আসলেন; আর তিনি দূরে যাবার ভাব দেখালেন। 29 কিন্তু তারা অনুরোধ করে বললেন, আমাদের সঙ্গে থাকুন, কারণ সন্ধ্যা হয়ে আসল, বেলা প্রায় চলে গেছে। তাতে তিনি তাদের সঙ্গে থাকার জন্য গৃহে ঢুকলেন। 30 পরে যখন তিনি তাদের সঙ্গে খাবার খেতে বসলেন, তখন রুটি নিয়ে ধন্যবাদ করলেন এবং ভেঙে তাদের দিতে লাগলেন। 31 অমনি তাদের চোখ খুলে গেল, তারা তাঁকে চিনতে পারলেন, আর তিনি তাদের থেকে অদৃশ্য হলেন। 32 তখন তারা পরস্পরকে বললেন, পথের মধ্যে যখন তিনি আমাদের সঙ্গে কথা বলছিলেন, আমাদের কাছে শাস্ত্রের অর্থ বুঝিয়ে দিচ্ছিলেন, তখন আমাদের ভিতরে আমাদের হৃদয় কি উদ্দীপ্ত হয়ে উঠছিল না?
