Then Isaiah 40:6-8 cuts through human self-importance: all flesh is grass, its beauty fades, but the word of our God stands forever. That means consolation is not built on human resilience. It is built on divine permanence. The chapter keeps pressing upward. In Isaiah 40:21-26, the Lord is set above nations, rulers, and stars, incomparable in majesty and unsearchable in power. Only then does the promise of Isaiah 40:28-31 land with its proper force. The weary are not being told to gather strength from themselves. They are being called to wait on the everlasting God who does not faint. Isaiah 40 matters because it asks whether you want comfort without surrendering your small view of God, and whether you can receive strength only by admitting how exhausted and creaturely you really are.
