His voice, eyes, face, and authority do not invite familiarity without reverence. When John falls as though dead, the chapter is teaching the church how to see again. The Christ who lays his hand on John in Revelation 1:17-18 is not less glorious because he comforts. He comforts precisely as the living one who died and now holds the keys of death and Hades. Revelation 1 matters because it repairs the church’s vision before the conflict intensifies. If Christ is first reduced to a topic, the rest of the book will be misread. The chapter asks whether you want information about the end, or whether you are ready to behold the Lord who stands among his churches and speaks with absolute authority.
