1 “ख़बरदार! अपने रास्तबाज़ी के काम आदमियों के सामने दिखावे के लिए न करो, नहीं तो तुम्हारे बाप के पास जो आसमान पर है; तुम्हारे लिए कुछ अज्र नहीं है।” 2 पस जब तुम ख़ैरात करो तो अपने आगे नरसिंगा न बजाओ, जैसा रियाकार 'इबादतख़ानों और कूचों में करते हैं; ताकि लोग उनकी बड़ाई करें मैं तुम से सच कहता हूँ, कि वो अपना अज्र पा चुके। 3 बल्कि जब तू ख़ैरात करे तो जो तेरा दहना हाथ करता है; उसे तेरा बाँया हाथ न जाने। 4 ताकि तेरी ख़ैरात पोशीदा रहे, इस सूरत में तेरा आसमानी बाप जो पोशीदगी में देखता है तुझे बदला देगा। 5 जब तुम दुआ करो तो रियाकारों की तरह न बनो; क्यूँकि वो 'इबादतख़ानों में और बाज़ारों के मोड़ों पर खड़े होकर दुआ करना पसन्द करते हैं; ताकि लोग उन को देखें; मैं तुम से सच कहता हूँ, कि वो अपना बदला पा चुके। 6 बल्कि जब तू दुआ करे तो अपनी कोठरी में जा और दरवाज़ा बंद करके अपने आसमानी बाप से जो पोशीदगी में है; दुआ कर इस सूरत में तेरा आसमानी बाप जो पोशीदगी में देखता है तुझे बदला देगा। 7 और दुआ करते वक़्त ग़ैर क़ौमों के लोगों की तरह बक — बक न करो क्यूँकि वो समझते हैं; कि हमारे बहुत बोलने की वजह से हमारी सुनी जाएगी। 8 पस उन की तरह न बनो; क्यूँकि तुम्हारा आसमानी बाप तुम्हारे माँगने से पहले ही जानता है कि तुम किन — किन चीज़ों के मोहताज हो। 9 पस तुम इस तरह दुआ किया करो, “ऐ हमारे बाप, तू जो आसमान पर है तेरा नाम पाक माना जाए। 10 तेरी बादशाही आए। तेरी मर्ज़ी जैसी आस्मान पर पूरी होती है ज़मीन पर भी हो। 11 हमारी रोज़ की रोटी आज हमें दे। 12 और जिस तरह हम ने अपने क़ुसूरवारों को मु'आफ़ किया है; तू भी हमारे क़ुसूरों को मु'आफ़ कर। 13 और हमें आज़्माइश में न ला, बल्कि बुराई से बचा; क्यूँकि बादशाही और क़ुदरत और जलाल हमेशा तेरे ही हैं; आमीन।” 14 इसलिए कि अगर तुम आदमियों के क़ुसूर मु'आफ़ करोगे तो तुम्हारा आसमानी बाप भी तुम को मु'आफ़ करेगा। 15 और अगर तुम आदमियों के क़ुसूर मु'आफ़ न करोगे तो तुम्हारा आसमानी बाप भी तुम को मु'आफ़ न करेगा। 16 जब तुम रोज़ा रख्खो तो रियाकारों की तरह अपनी सूरत उदास न बनाओ; क्यूँकि वो अपना मुँह बिगाड़ते हैं; ताकि लोग उन को रोज़ादार जाने। मैं तुम से सच कहता हूँ कि वो अपना अज्र पा चुके। 17 बल्कि जब तू रोज़ा रख्खे तो अपने सिर पर तेल डाल और मुँह धो। 18 ताकि आदमी नहीं बल्कि तेरा बाप जो पोशीदगी में है तुझे रोज़ादार जाने। इस सूरत में तेरा बाप जो पोशीदगी में देखता है तुझे बदला देगा। 19 अपने वास्ते ज़मीन पर माल जमा न करो, जहाँ पर कीड़ा और ज़ँग ख़राब करता है; और जहाँ चोर नक़ब लगाते और चुराते हैं। 20 बल्कि अपने लिए आसमान पर माल जमा करो; जहाँ पर न कीड़ा ख़राब करता है; न ज़ँग और न वहाँ चोर नक़ब लगाते और चुराते हैं। 21 क्यूँकि जहाँ तेरा माल है वहीं तेरा दिल भी लगा रहेगा। 22 बदन का चराग़ आँख है। पस अगर तेरी आँख दुरुस्त हो तो तेरा पूरा बदन रोशन होगा। 23 अगर तेरी आँख ख़राब हो तो तेरा सारा बदन तारीक होगा। पस अगर वो रोशनी जो तुझ में है तारीक हो तो तारीकी कैसी बड़ी होगी। 24 कोई आदमी दो मालिकों की ख़िदमत नहीं कर सकता; क्यूँकि या तो एक से दुश्मनी रख्खे और दूसरे से मुहब्बत या एक से मिला रहेगा और दूसरे को नाचीज़ जानेगा; तुम ख़ुदा और दौलत दोनों की ख़िदमत नहीं कर सकते। 25 इसलिए मैं तुम से कहता हूँ; कि अपनी जान की फ़िक्र न करना कि हम क्या खाएँगे या क्या पीएँगे, और न अपने बदन की कि क्या पहनेंगे; क्या जान ख़ूराक से और बदन पोशाक से बढ़ कर नहीं। 26 हवा के परिन्दों को देखो कि न बोते हैं न काटते न कोठियाँ में जमा करते हैं; तोभी तुम्हारा आसमानी बाप उनको खिलाता है क्या तुम उस से ज़्यादा क़द्र नहीं रखते? 27 तुम में से ऐसा कौन है जो फ़िक्र करके अपनी उम्र एक घड़ी भी बढ़ा सके? 28 और पोशाक के लिए क्यूँ फ़िक्र करते हो; जंगली सोसन के दरख़्तों को ग़ौर से देखो कि वो किस तरह बढ़ते हैं; वो न मेहनत करते हैं न कातते हैं। 29 तोभी मैं तुम से कहता हूँ; कि सुलैमान भी बावजूद अपनी सारी शानो शौकत के उन में से किसी की तरह कपड़े पहने न था। 30 पस जब ख़ुदा मैदान की घास को जो आज है और कल तंदूर में झोंकी जाएगी; ऐसी पोशाक पहनाता है, तो ऐ कम ईमान वालो “तुम को क्यूँ न पहनाएगा? 31 “इस लिए फ़िक्रमन्द होकर ये न कहो, हम क्या खाएँगे? या क्या पिएँगे? या क्या पहनेंगे?” 32 क्यूँकि इन सब चीज़ों की तलाश में ग़ैर क़ौमें रहती हैं; और तुम्हारा आसमानी बाप जानता है, कि तुम इन सब चीज़ों के मोहताज हो। 33 बल्कि तुम पहले उसकी बादशाही और उसकी रास्बाज़ी की तलाश करो तो ये सब चीज़ें भी तुम को मिल जाएँगी। 34 पस कल के लिए फ़िक्र न करो क्यूँकि कल का दिन अपने लिए आप फ़िक्र कर लेगा; आज के लिए आज ही का दु:ख काफ़ी है।
