నేనేం పాపం చేశాను? 10 నీ దేవుడు యెహోవా ప్రాణం తోడు, నిన్ను పట్టుకోవాలని నా యజమాని వార్తాహరులను పంపించని దేశం గానీ రాజ్యం గానీ లేదు. ‘ఏలీయా ఇక్కడ లేడు’ అని ఆ దేశం గానీ రాజ్యం గానీ అంటే వారితో అలా ప్రమాణం చేయించుకునేవాడు. 11 నీవు నీ యజమాని దగ్గరికి వెళ్లి, ‘ఏలీయా ఇక్కడున్నాడు’ అని చెప్పమని నాకు చెబుతున్నావే! 12 నేను నీ దగ్గరనుండి వెళ్ళిన వెంటనే యెహోవా ఆత్మ, నాకు తెలియని ప్రదేశానికి నిన్ను తీసుకుపోతాడు. అప్పుడు నేను వెళ్లి అహాబుకు కబురు చెప్పిన తరువాత నీవు అతనికి కనబడకపోతే అతడు నన్ను చంపేస్తాడు. కాబట్టి అలా ఆజ్ఞాపించవద్దు. నీ దాసుడనైన నేను చిన్నప్పటి నుంచి యెహోవాపట్ల భయభక్తులు గలిగిన వాణ్ణి. 13 యెజెబెలు యెహోవా ప్రవక్తలను చంపేస్తుంటే నేనేం చేశానో నీకు తెలియదా? నేను యెహోవా ప్రవక్తల్లో వందమందిని, గుహకు యాభై మంది చొప్పున దాచి, భోజనం పెట్టి వారిని పోషించాను. 14 ఇప్పుడు ఏలీయా ఇక్కడున్నాడని నీ యజమానికి చెప్పు అంటున్నావే, అహాబు నన్ను చంపేస్తాడు” అని మనవి చేశాడు. 15 అప్పుడు ఏలీయా “ఎవరి సన్నిధిలో నేను నిలుచున్నానో దూతల సైన్యాల అధిపతి అయిన యెహోవా జీవం తోడు, కచ్చితంగా ఈ రోజు నేను అహాబును కలుసుకుంటాను” అన్నాడు. 16 కాబట్టి ఓబద్యా అహాబును కలుసుకుని ఈ విషయం తెలియచేశాడు. వెంటనే ఏలీయాను కలుసుకోడానికి అహాబు బయలుదేరాడు. 17 అహాబు ఏలీయాను చూడగానే “ఇశ్రాయేలు ప్రజా కంటకుడా, నువ్వేనా” అన్నాడు. 18 ఏలీయా “ఇశ్రాయేలు ప్రజలను కష్ట పెట్టేది నేను కాదు, నువ్వూ నీ తండ్రి వంశం వాళ్ళు. మీరు యెహోవా ఆజ్ఞలను పాటించకుండా బయలు విగ్రహాలను అనుసరించారు. 19 అయితే ఇప్పుడు నీవు ఇశ్రాయేలు వారందరినీ యెజెబెలు పోషిస్తున్న బయలు దేవుడి ప్రవక్తలు 450 మందినీ అషేరాదేవి ప్రవక్తలు 400 మందినీ నా దగ్గరికి కర్మెలు పర్వతానికి పిలిపించు” అన్నాడు. 20 అహాబు ఇశ్రాయేలు వారందరి దగ్గరికి వార్తాహరులను పంపి, ప్రవక్తలను కర్మెలు పర్వతం దగ్గరికి సమకూర్చాడు. 21 ఏలీయా ప్రజలందరి దగ్గరికి వచ్చి “ఎంతకాలం మీరు రెండు అభిప్రాయాల మధ్య తడబడుతూ ఉంటారు? యెహోవా దేవుడైతే ఆయన్ని అనుసరించండి, బయలు దేవుడైతే వాణ్ణి అనుసరించండి” అని చెప్పాడు. ప్రజలు అతనికి జవాబుగా ఒక మాట కూడా పలకలేదు. 22 అప్పుడు ఏలీయా “యెహోవా ప్రవక్తల్లో నేను ఒక్కడినే మిగిలాను. అయితే, బయలు ప్రవక్తలు 450 మంది ఉన్నారు. 23 మాకు రెండు ఎద్దులు ఇవ్వండి. వాళ్ళు వాటిలో ఒక దాన్ని కోరుకుని దాన్ని ముక్కలు చేసి, కింద నిప్పు పెట్టకుండా కట్టెల మీద ఉంచాలి. రెండవ ఎద్దును నేను సిద్ధం చేసి, కింద నిప్పు పెట్టకుండా దాన్ని కట్టెల మీద పెడతాను. 24 తరువాత మీరు మీ దేవుడు పేరును బట్టి ప్రార్థన చేయండి. నేను యెహోవా పేరును బట్టి ప్రార్థన చేస్తాను. ఏ దేవుడు కట్టెలు కాల్చి జవాబిస్తాడో ఆయనే దేవుడు” అన్నాడు. ప్రజలంతా “ఆ మాట బాగుంది” అని జవాబిచ్చారు. 25 అప్పుడు ఏలీయా, బయలు ప్రవక్తలను పిలిచి “మీరు ఎక్కువ మంది ఉన్నారు కాబట్టి మీరే మొదట ఒక ఎద్దును సిద్ధం చేసి మీ దేవుడి పేర ప్రార్థన చేయండి. అయితే కింద నిప్పు పెట్టొద్దు” అన్నాడు. 26 వారు తమకిచ్చిన ఎద్దును తీసుకు సిద్ధం చేసి, ఉదయం నుంచి మధ్యాహ్నం వరకూ “బయలు దేవుడా, మా ప్రార్థన విను” అంటూ బయలు పేరున ప్రార్థన చేశారు గాని వారికి ఒక్క మాట కూడా జవాబిచ్చేవాడు ఎవడూ లేకపోయారు. వాళ్ళు తాము చేసిన బలిపీఠం దగ్గర చిందులు తొక్కడం మొదలు పెట్టారు. 27 మధ్యాహ్నమైనప్పుడు ఏలీయా “వాడు దేవుడు గదా! పెద్దగా కేకలేయండి. వాడు ఒకవేళ పరధ్యానంలో ఉన్నాడేమో! మూత్రవిసర్జనకు వెళ్లాడేమో, ప్రయాణంలో ఉన్నాడేమో! ఒకవేళ నిద్రపోతుంటే లేపాలేమో” అని గేలి చేశాడు. 28 వారింకా పెద్దగా కేకలేస్తూ రక్తం కారేంత వరకూ తమ అలవాటు ప్రకారం కత్తులతో బాణాలతో తమ దేహాలను కోసుకుంటున్నారు. 29 ఈ విధంగా మధ్యాహ్నం నుంచి సాయంత్ర బలి అర్పణ సమయం వరకూ వారు కేకలు వేశారు గానీ వాళ్ళకి ఏ జవాబూ రాలేదు. ఏ దేవుడూ వారి కేకలను పట్టించుకోలేదు. 30 అప్పుడు ఏలీయా “నా దగ్గరికి రండి” అని ప్రజలతో చెప్పాడు. వారంతా అతని దగ్గరికి వచ్చారు. అతడు పాడైపోయి ఉన్న యెహోవా బలిపీఠాన్ని మరమ్మతు చేశాడు. 31 “నీ పేరు ఇశ్రాయేలు” అని యెహోవా వాగ్దానం పొందిన యాకోబు వంశపు గోత్రాల లెక్క ప్రకారం ఏలీయా పన్నెండు పెద్ద రాళ్లను తీసుకున్నాడు. 32 ఆ రాళ్లతో యెహోవా పేరున ఒక బలిపీఠం కట్టించి, దాని చుట్టూ 20 లీటర్ల నీళ్ళు పట్టేంత లోతుగా కందకమొకటి తవ్వించాడు. 33 కట్టెలను క్రమంగా పేర్చి ఎద్దును ముక్కలు చేసి ఆ కట్టెల మీద ఉంచాడు. ప్రజలు చూస్తూ ఉంటే “మీరు నాలుగు తొట్ల నిండా నీళ్లు నింపి, దహనబలి పశుమాంసం మీదా కట్టెల మీదా పోయండి” అన్నాడు. 34 తరువాత “రెండవ సారి అలాగే చేయండి” అని చెప్పాడు. వారు రెండవ సారి కూడా ఆలాగే చేశారు. “మూడవ సారి కూడా చేయండి” అన్నాడు. వారు మూడవ సారి కూడా అలా చేశారు. 35 అప్పుడు ఆ నీళ్లు బలిపీఠం చుట్టూ పొర్లి పారాయి. అతడు కందకాన్ని నీళ్లతో నింపాడు. 36 సాయంత్ర బలి అర్పణ అర్పించే సమయానికి ఏలీయా ప్రవక్త బలిపీఠం దగ్గరికి వచ్చి “యెహోవా, అబ్రాహాము ఇస్సాకు ఇశ్రాయేలుల దేవా ఇశ్రాయేలీయుల మధ్య నీవు దేవుడవై ఉన్నావనీ నేను నీ సేవకుడనై ఉన్నాననీ నేనిదంతా నీ మాట ప్రకారమే చేశాననీ ఈ రోజు చూపించు. 37 యెహోవా, నా ప్రార్థన విను. యెహోవావైన నువ్వే దేవుడవనీ నీవు వారి హృదయాలను మళ్ళీ నీ వైపు తిప్పుతున్నావనీ ఈ ప్రజలకు తెలిసేలా నా ప్రార్థన విను” అన్నాడు. 38 అతడు ఇలా ప్రార్థన చేస్తూ ఉండగా యెహోవా అగ్ని దిగి, దహనబలి పశువునూ కట్టెలనూ రాళ్లనూ మట్టినీ కాల్చి కందకంలోని నీళ్లను ఆర్పేసింది. 39 ప్రజలంతా దాన్ని చూసి సాష్టాంగ నమస్కారం చేసి “యెహోవాయే దేవుడు, యెహోవాయే దేవుడు” అని కేకలు వేశారు. 40 అప్పుడు ఏలీయా “బయలు దేవుడి ప్రవక్తలందర్నీ పట్టుకోండి. ఎవర్నీ వదలొద్దు” అన్నాడు. ప్రజలు వారిని పట్టుకున్నారు. ఏలీయా కీషోను వాగు దగ్గరికి వారిని తీసికెళ్ళి చంపేశాడు. 41 ఏలీయా “పెద్ద వాన కురుస్తున్న శబ్దం వస్తున్నది. నీవు వెళ్లి భోజనం చెయ్యి” అని అహాబుతో చెప్పాడు. 42 అహాబు భోజనం చేయడానికి వెళ్ళాడు గాని, ఏలీయా కర్మెలు పర్వతం ఎక్కి నేలమీద పడి ముఖం మోకాళ్ల మధ్య పెట్టుకున్నాడు. 43 తరువాత అతడు తన సేవకుణ్ణి పిలిచి “నీవు పైకి వెళ్లి సముద్రం వైపు చూడు” అన్నాడు. వాడు మెరక ఎక్కి చూసి “ఏమీ కనబడ్డం లేదు” అన్నాడు. అతడు ఇంకా ఏడు సార్లు “వెళ్లి చూడు” అన్నాడు. 44 ఏడో సారి అతడు చూసి “అదిగో మనిషి చెయ్యంత చిన్న మేఘం, సముద్రం నుంచి పైకి లేస్తూ ఉంది” అన్నాడు. అప్పుడు ఏలీయా “నీవు అహాబు దగ్గరికి వెళ్లి, నీ రథాన్ని సిద్ధ పరచుకో, వానలో చిక్కుకుపోక ముందే వెళ్ళిపో” అని చెప్పమని అతన్ని పంపాడు. 45 అంతలోనే ఆకాశం కారుమేఘాలు కమ్మింది. దానికి గాలి తోడైంది. వాన జోరుగా కురిసింది. అహాబు రథమెక్కి యెజ్రెయేలు పట్టణం వెళ్లిపోయాడు. 46 అయితే యెహోవా హస్తం ఏలీయా మీద ఉంది. అతడు నడుం బిగించుకుని అహాబు కంటే ముందే పరుగెత్తి యెజ్రెయేలు చేరుకున్నాడు.
