In Joshua 1:5-9, the repeated command to be strong and courageous is inseparable from the promise that the Lord will be with him. Courage here is not personality. It is obedience under divine presence. Then Joshua 1:8 presses even deeper. Leadership is to be shaped by meditation on the word, not by impulse, charisma, or improvisation. The chapter understands something many do not: fear is not only conquered by comfort, but by sustained submission to what God has said.
