Romans 8:1 announces a verdict no sinner could ever secure by effort: no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.
הקשר בפרק
The verse answers the agony of Romans 7 by moving the reader away from self-measurement and into God’s decisive act in Christ. The rest of the chapter shows that this verdict produces Spirit-governed life.
Some want the comfort of justification without the death of self-rule. Paul will not separate the two.
No condemnation is not permission for spiritual passivity. It is the beginning of Spirit-formed freedom and obedience.
Romans 8:1 stands on the justification Paul already established earlier in the letter.
Union with Christ is not only legal standing but a new shared life.
